Spectral functions in doped transition metal oxides

چکیده

We present experimental photoemission and inverse photoemission spectra of SrTiO3−δ representing electron doped d 0 systems. Photoemission spectra in presence of electron doping exhibit prominent features arising from electron correlation effects, while the inverse photoemssion spectra are dominated by spectral features explainable within single-particle approaches. We show that such a spectral evolution in chemically doped correlated systems is not compatible with expectations based on Hubbard or any other similar model. We present a new theoretical approach taking into account the inhomogeneity of the real system which gives qualitatively different results compared to standard homogeneous models and is in quantitative agreement with experiments. Evolution of photoemission spectral functions in doped transition metal oxides

We discuss the experimental photoemission and inverse photoemission of early transition metal oxides, in the light of the dynamical mean field theory of correlated electrons which becomes exact in the limit of infinite dimensions. We argue that a comprehensive description of the experimental data requires spatial inhomogeneities and present a calculation of the evolution of the spectral functio...

Spin, Orbital, and Spin-Orbital Polarons in Transition Metal Oxides

I give a brief overview of a polaron formation in three distinct transition metal oxides: (i) spin polaron when a hole is added to the antiferromagnetic (AF) ordered plane in La2CuO4, (ii) orbital polaron when a hole is added to the alternating orbital (AO) ordered plane in LaMnO3, and (iii) spin-orbital polaron when a hole is added to the AF and AO ordered plane in LaVO3. Comparison of the dis...

A First Principles Investigation of Transitional Metal Doping in Lithium Battery Cathode Materials

The goal of this work is to understand the properties of mixed-metal intercalation oxides. Using first-principles methods, the effect of doping on the mixing, energetic, and voltage properties as well as the phase diagrams of lithium transition-metal oxides for lithium battery cathode materials was investigated. The effect of doping on the phase separation tendencies of layered transition-metal...

Origin of the crossover from polarons to Fermi liquids in transition metal oxides

Transition metal oxides host a wealth of exotic phenomena ranging from charge, orbital and magnetic order to nontrivial topological phases and superconductivity. In order to translate these unique materials properties into device functionalities these materials must be doped; however, the nature of carriers and their conduction mechanism at the atomic scale remain unclear. Recent angle-resolved...

Antiferromagnetism and phase separation in electronic models for doped transition-metal oxides

We investigate the ground state properties of electronic models for doped transition-metal oxides. An effective t J like Hamiltonian is derived from the case of strong Hund coupling between the conduction electrons and localized spins by means of the projection technique. An attractive interaction for conduction electrons and an antiferromagnetic coupling of the localized spin are obtained. A l...
